My Approach
My goal is to create a supportive, positive, and safe environment where athletes can grow and improve.
Technique: I prioritize proper rowing technique, as it is the foundation of a successful and powerful rowing stroke. I help athletes develop a strong technical foundation through regular drills, feedback, and video analysis/feedback.
Positive coaching environment: A positive coaching environment is essential for athlete growth and development. My goal is to continuously provide a supportive and encouraging environment.
Individualized coaching: Every athlete is different, I tailor my coaching to each individual's needs and goals. This means creating personalized training plans, offering individual feedback, and providing support based on each athlete's strengths and weaknesses.
Goal-oriented approach: I work with athletes to clear goals and create a plan to achieve them. A goal can be anything from pulling a faster 2000m time to rowing pain-free. This involves setting short-term and long-term objectives, tracking progress, and adjusting the training plan as needed.
Communication: I believe that is important for athletes to feel like they can reach out whenever they have questions or need support. For this reason, I limit the number of clients I have.
About me:
I started rowing in grade 8. I participated in the Royal Canadian Henley regatta on several occasions winning a total of 8 gold medals in the junior A and B categories in singles, doubles and quads. In grade 11, I was awarded the top female sculler award by Rowing Canada (Bobby Pearce Award).
I had the honour of racing for Team BC and the Junior National Development Team, winning a gold medal in Mexico while setting a course record time with my crew. Choosing from over 20 offers of full-ride rowing scholarships, I chose to attend the University of Virginia. Offers included UCLA, CalBerkeley and Duke University.
I have over 15 years of coaching experience and have coached everyone from novices to athletes who have qualified for the Junior National Development Team. In addition to private coaching, I am the Head Coach for the North Van School District’s Rowing Academy.
