I started rowing a year and a half ago with my high school academy. I was interested in an off season sport to improve my strength and endurance for my main sport downhill mountain biking. In my first year I was rowing 2-3 times a week while mainly focusing on mountain biking. After the summer of 2023 I decided to step up my rowing by erging 4-5 times a week and started on a personalised training plan from Jill. Right away I started seeing huge improvement in my technique and fitness. After ten weeks on Jill's specialised training plan I competed at the Beat the Beast indoor erg race and beat my last 2k (6:59.7) by 16 seconds (6:43.7). Since then I have done another 2k at 6:41.1. We are now focusing on on-water technique and seeing improvement immediately which is motivating. I recommend working with Jill if you are serious about raising your game.

Jill is a fantastic coach, her understanding of the stroke is unmatched. While I have only been training with Jill for the last 4 months, I can gladly say that it has been my most enjoyable time with the sport. Jill brings out the best in the athlete and is very knowledgeable. She notices everything on the water and elevates my technique to the next level.
When I first started with Jill, I had a very different understanding of the rowing stroke. I had not been achieving the results on the water that I would have liked to, so I came to Jill seeking help. Within just a few weeks, she was able to break down my stroke and rebuild it, resulting in a stroke that was twice as effective. Not only did Jill provide me with one-on-one coaching on the water, but she also showed me a new perspective on how to train more efficiently on land. Jill gave me a detailed plan that contained unique erg workouts, heart rate zones, and cross-training.
While my work with Jill is not near to being done, I am looking forward to continuing my training with her and continue developing.

10 months ago I started rowing seriously. My technique from rowing on the erg every so often was nothing pretty. However once I stared with Jill in a short while my numbers for the 2k skyrocketed, I PR'd a 7:04 in training and couldn't wait to improve on that number. Jill continued to develop my technique to prepare me for the Beat the Beast competition, more conditioning and technique work later and I PR'd at the comp a 6:48. After the comp I knew I had more in me, A personalized plan was created, and of course more technique work. Another training 2k was pulled and I got a 6:37.8.Jill saw my potential and knew exactly how to unleash it. Thanks to her knowledge of technique, conditioning, programming and even nutrition I have been able to flourish in the sport. After these last months Jill knows me personally, she knows how to help me balance my other interests and school. I am very grateful to her commitment to me as an athlete and person.

————The personalized attention I received during my 1:1 coaching sessions with Jill were fundamental in my rowing development. Her insightful feedback and keen eye for detail helped me improve my technique significantly. Jill was always ready with constructive advice, constantly fine-tuning my form, and motivating me to reach new heights in my performance. Moreover, her responsiveness and proactivity in managing the training plans were exceptional. I greatly appreciated how Jill tailored each training program to suit my areas for improvement which significantly aided in lowering my 2k time. One of the standout qualities that truly defines Jill's coaching style is the environment of trust she creates. From the very beginning, I knew I could trust her judgment in guiding me toward my athletic goals. Jill never pushed me beyond my limits, but instead, she knew exactly how to challenge me appropriately to achieve continuous growth. I candidly endorse her rowing coaching services to anyone aspiring not only to excel in the sport but also to foster personal growth.
Update: Under Jill’s coaching, video analysis and training plans I have been recruited to several Division 1 and Division 3 rowing programs in the USA. I have committed to Columbia University Men’s Heavyweight Rowing in the Ivy League for Fall 2025. I couldn’t have done it without her coaching. Jill’s depth of knowledge in rowing and vast experience in coaching is exceptional. Updated testimonial submitted by an athlete who submitted a testimonial 12 months ago.

————Although I have only been coached by Jill for less than a year, her impact on my rowing career has been imperative to my growth as both an athlete and an individual.
Following the isolation of the pandemic, my grade 11 season was my first opportunity to race competitively in rowing. Despite progressing in the school year, it wasn’t until I began working with Jill over the summer when I truly made the leap I had been hoping for. Jill’s guidance and unwavering support, whether it be through coaching during erg sessions or providing advice in order to further propel me towards my potential, was fundamental in my following success, as I was able to drop my 2K time by 13 seconds and placed 3rd/44 in the Canadian Henley Men’s U19 Coxed Four. Her expansive knowledge of the rowing stroke and ability to provide valuable insight has provided me with a clear pathway towards maximizing my speed.
In addition to her ability to elevate my rowing, Jill has also been a significant mentor throughout my grade 12 year. Having had a difficult time balancing my rigorous school work with rowing, I decided to step away from my school team with no intention of returning. When I visited Jill for a row several months later, however, she helped direct me towards viewing the situation from a different perspective which ultimately revitalized my passion for rowing and persuaded me into rejoining the team.
For anyone looking to take the next step in their rowing careers, I strongly recommend reaching out to Jill as she has played a significant role in helping me reach my athletic and personal goals.

Jillian Trigg has been a fantastic coach and I owe much of my success to her and her training. Over the year and a half that she coached me, I went from not being able to row to being named to the Junior National CANAMEX Squad and being recruited to row for the UBC Men’s Varsity Team. Jill’s training was not only effective but also enjoyable as Jill knows a good balance between rigor and fun. Through Jill’s own rowing and experience learning the stroke, she has a great knowledge of the technique and skills necessary to excel in the sport. Jill isn’t only a great coach but a great mentor and person. Through the training with Jill, I always felt I had a coach but also a friend who (although is scared of birds) is a pretty amazing person; always willing to go the extra mile for her athletes. So to anyone considering signing up for her training, I’d say 100% go for it; you will not regret it.

In the three years I was privileged enough to have Jill as a coach, I grew incredibly as both an athlete and a person. Not only did my results improve significantly, but I became more confident in myself and my athletic abilities. In those three years, she has pushed me to my limits on workouts, helped develop my rowing technique extensively but also helped me mentally prepare for competitions and cope with the performance anxiety associated with rowing.
Her attention to detail and precise technical feedback are incomparable to any other coach. In one of our first sessions, she noticed an immediate technical issue with my stroke that all of my previous coaches had failed to point out. Within the span of three weeks, we worked on various drills on the ergometer to help me relax my upper body and improve the efficiency of my stroke overall and a week later, I was able to shave 7 seconds off of my previous 2km time and come 1st at a provincial ergometer competition.
I would recommend Jill to anyone seeking to improve their technique, endurance or overall results. She is one of the kindest, most understanding people I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Whether you plan to train with her on a full time basis, or only occasionally, it is amazing what her coaching will do for you.

Working with Jill for the past four months has made an incredible difference in my execution and understanding of all aspects of the rowing stroke. Jill is an exceptional instructor and coach with a keen eye for technical details. She skillfully identifies areas to improve, provides clear and varied instructions to ensure understanding, and explains how these improvements will benefit the overall efficiency of my stroke. Between coaching sessions, Jill provides detailed drills and workouts, checks in regularly for clarification, provides feedback, and alters instruction as needed. I appreciate Jill’s ability to meet me where I’m at, break down the instruction into achievable segments, recognize and celebrate my successes, and use these successes as a basis for future learning. Jill is genuinely interested in and committed to helping me achieve my very best! With her instruction and encouragement, I am more confident not only on the erg going into my next 2k, but, most importantly, more confident, and better prepared for my workouts and races on the water.

Jill is a friendly instructor who recognizes my strengths and takes an interest in my passions. Every time I have the pleasure to work with Jill, she is patient in repeating her instructions and provides encouragement when I might be confused by what she is asking. For example, she knows that I love playing with my pizza and she seems genuinely excited every time I bring it to her; however, when I get too excited and forget what she is asking me to get, she patiently asks again and celebrates my attempts. Even when I interrupt her instructions or her work with other clients (a.k.a. Laura), she takes the time to listen to me and helps meet my basic needs of attention, head pats, and playing pizza tug of war. I like Jill and you will, too!
